Glimpse into our thinking

 

“And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house—  for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’  He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”  Luke 16:27-31 (ESV) We may think we know what those who have died before us would say to us if they had the chance. Here we see what the rich man would say and do if he had the opportunity to visit earth once again.  He would tell his family that God is real, that heaven and hell were real, and that ignoring God is foolish. This is a glimpse into how people think who had entered their eternal state before us by the only one who knew what that experience would be like. We would be wise to think about how we could enter eternity as Lazarus did rather than the rich man. For now, the choice is still ours.
