Simple Focus

Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.  Luke 14:25-26 (ESV)

Crowds seem to gather crowds. There were times when many were following Jesus, but in reality, they were not following Him. To be a disciple, or follower of Jesus, one needed to do more than find Him entertaining.

Jesus was helping those who thought they were followers define what following was all about. Those who were to follow Him needed to make the relationship with Him the most important focus of their lives. When a person loves and obeys God, they are appropriately positioned to love their family and friends. If we focus on our family and friends, we cannot love God properly.

Life is systematic and orderly, and if we live the way we were meant to live, we will enjoy all the relationships we were meant to enjoy. When our priorities are out of order, our lives are out of order.
