Purpose of Plans

"And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”  Luke 12:11-12 (ESV)

Perhaps we become too anxious because we try to plan, when planning is impossible. I think the Scriptures encourage us to plan, yet we are never encouraged to trust our plans. We are to save for the future, yet we are to never trust our savings. We are to live as if we will be here tomorrow, yet no one is promised tomorrow.

God is the only one who knows the future, and He loves us and has a plan for us, so we need to act in accordance with this fact. When we pray, we usually end our prayers with some acknowledgement that He has a will, and we want to submit to His will, even though we gave Him a plan.

It is normal and right to plan, to submit our plan, and then to trust God with the plan and the actual implementation of that plan. As we do so, He will lead and guide, and we will clearly see Him.
