When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; but when one stronger than he attacks him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted and divides his spoil. Luke 11:21-22 (ESV) We often trust our strength, wealth, and intellect for a secure future. Yet, strength, wealth, and intellect can easily fail, leaving us at the mercy of those who have more strength, wealth, and intellect than ourselves. Those who know God, trust God, and in Him they find all that is necessary for life today, and all that gives us hope for tomorrow. In the United States there are many rich poor people. Their riches and power have fueled extreme comfort that has now become their dominant desire. In the end, those who have focused on themselves, their ability and their comfort will be empty, alone, and tired and have no way to rectify the problem. As the old chorus states, “Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” |
